About the Author

My name is Kyla Cheater and I am a 3rdyear education student at the University of Regina.  I was both born and raised in Regina and attended Henry Braun Elementary School, Luther College High School and graduated from Winston Knoll Collegiate.  In my youth I was heavily involved in extra-curricular activites including: swimming, soccer, cheerleading, S.R.C, writing club, yearbook and grad committees.  My true passion however, lies in the arts.  I danced for 5 years, took piano lessons for 7 years, played the flute in elementary band and sang in high school choir.  I became involved in Regina Summer Stage in 2005 and Regina Little Theatre in 2006.  It was here I discovered and developed my love of musical theatre.  I have appeared in 5 productions in the community and 3 in school.  I was also honoured with the privilege of singing the national anthem at the University of Regina Charity Cheerleading Competition in 2009.

In my spare time I love spending time outdoors and with my loved ones who support me in all aspects of my life.  I consider myself a fun loving spirit and am always quick to flash a smile.  I find inspiration in the simple things in life and am a highly motivated individual.  I am hard working, dedicated and extremely compassionate.

My previous experience with children in recent years include being a nanny and doing ABA therapy with a child with autism, volunteering as a classroom helper at Balfour Collegiate in a low literacy EAL class and as an achievement plus tutor at the YMCA.  These experiences excite me as I move forward in my education and challenge me to work with students of varying circumstances and backgrounds. Most recently I have become a part of the Normanview Daycare family where I cooperatively provide childcare to fourteen exploring toddlers.  Every day is a new day and seeing their excitement as they develop and grow is by far one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had.

I am very passionate about my study of education and am grateful for any opportunity that aids in my journey of professional development.   Specifically this blog will be dedicated to my journey as a pre-service teacher and will be an excellent place for documentation and reflection.   I look forward to any and all comments others are willing to offer, and appreciate those who have taken the time to follow my blog.

“A very wise old teacher once said: ‘I consider a day’s teaching wasted if we do not all have one hearty laugh together’.  He meant that when people laugh together, they cease to be young and old, master and pupils, jailer and prisoners. They become a single group of human beings enjoying its existence” ~ Gilbert Highet

Well hello! Thanks for visiting my page. As I am sure that you are aware, I struggle with technology and am quite proud of the fact that I actually have a blog up and running. I find it a challenge daily, and knowing somebody has actually taken the time to visit is reassuring to know that my hard work is not for nothing! So nice to see a familiar and friendly face and I am excited to correspond and hear all of your advise and wisdom in the next couple months!!
